It’s not clear why you’d want to do this, but it’s amazing you can. As Technovelgy reports, the iDriver remotely works the steering, brakes and gas. A video camera on the dashboard allows the “apperator” to see where he’s not really going. The ultimate gift for the remote-control freak who already has everything from Radio Shack?

The latest version of Microsoft Windows — Windows 7 — is now on the market. So if you’re like the average PC user, it’s fated to become a factor in your life. Here are seven things to keep in mind about it.

1. It’s really a “maintenance release.”

Basically, it’s Microsoft Vista with accumulated fixes and performance enhancements. That’s a good thing, since there’s no dramatic break with the past to cause festering compatibility issues, and no steep learning curve for the users. Compared to Vista, Windows 7 does better running on low-performance machines like netbooks. It boots and shuts down faster — but that’s less of an issue since its sleep mode is reliable, letting you shut down in two seconds and restart in two seconds. With Vista, desktops often refused to go into sleep mode, or would restart randomly from sleep mode, noted PC industry watcher Rob Enderle, principal analyst the Enderle Group in San Jose, CA.

It may be a new term for many but it is quite an established idea. The concept of Lean Management Principles goes back to Henry Ford and then more recently Toyota cars. It used to be known as the ‘just in time’ model for manufacturers. It has all moved on a bit since then and the modern theory is more than that – a theory – it works.

The main core element of the Lean management principles is that anything that doesnt add value to the customers end product is considered waste. This may sound like a problem but its actually a fantastic breath of fresh air. Taken as a starting point its then really possible to engage a lean consulting firm and start to reduce you companies costs. This either creates a cheaper product with obvious benefit on the bottom line or produces a more waste free production process.

The idea although not new is still not so wide spread that every company will have its own on board Lean expert. But thats okay as there are many lean software outsourcing companies in existence. The main tenant of the lean management idea is to streamline all processes and as such the outsourcing of the process is a very Lean attitude.

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) _ Microsoft Corp. mogul Bill Gates and the leader of Ford Motor Co. outlined a future Friday in which software enables cars to fix themselves and avoid accidents.

Gates and Bill Ford Jr., Ford’s chairman and chief executive, said high-definition screens, speech recognition technology, cameras, digital calendars and navigation equipment with directions and road conditions will set car companies apart from their competitors.

Eventually, Gates said, there could be a car that wouldn’t let itself crash.

“That absolutely should be the goal,” Gates told several hundred participants of the Microsoft Global Automotive Summit at the automaker’s suburban Detroit campus. “The embrace of technology will be the key for the leaders of the industry.”

Also on Friday, Microsoft unveiled its Performance Peak Initiative _ a line of computer systems to help the auto industry better coordinate supply chains, streamline design, production and sales and fill vehicles with computer gadgets.

The company said its technology is currently in 25 vehicle devices from 13 automotive companies.

Microsoft also owns MSN Autos, a vehicle information and buying network.

The first time you pick up the Motorola Droid ($200 with a two-year contract from Verizon; price as of 10/28/09), you’ll notice its solid feel and heft–there’s a lot going on behind the crisp, 3.7-inch touchscreen. Making good use of Android 2.0’s new features, the Droid is a powerful Web surfing and communications tool that has a chance of living up to its hype. The Droid’s biggest flaw, however, is in its hardware design: The keyboard is shallow and flat, which can make typing uncomfortable.

At 0.54 inch thick, the Droid is slightly beefier than the 0.48-inch-thick iPhone 3GS, but it still has room for a 40-key, slide-out QWERTY keypad. At just under 6 ounces, it’s about an ounce heftier than the iPhone 3GS. When closed, the 4.56-by-2.36-inch Droid is almost the same size as the 4.5-by-2.4-inch iPhone 3GS.

Social media marketing has exploded on the scene and has everyone scrambling to get a company presence on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.

Although the medium is generally unproven as far as adding to the bottom line, social media marketing can’t be ignored. Many companies have run out to get a Twitter account but have no strategy for using it.

Opera has always been packed with features, but it has yet to garner the same kind of publicity that Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome enjoy. And that’s a shame, because version 10 of the venerable Web browser adds a slew of clever features that anyone who surfs the Web will welcome.

Like previous versions, Opera 10 is fast, configurable, and clean-looking–and it offers just about everything you’d expect in a modern browser, including a pop-up blocker, plug-ins, an RSS reader, and an antiphishing tool. Unlike competing browsers, it also has a surprisingly good built-in e-mail client, with support for POP3 and IMAP servers, the ability to create incoming message rules, and a spam filter. And, once again in this version, Opera bristles with features too numerous to mention in this short review, yet it packs them all into an elegant, simple-to-use interface.

apple-ipod-nano-5th-generation-3

The fifth-gen iPod Nano is almost impossibly slim, but somehow the wizards at Apple managed to pack in a video camera. Though you’ll find a few other new features in the fifth-generation Nano ($150 for the 8GB version, $180 for the 16GB model; prices as of 9/23/09), the video camera is the marquee addition. Considering how much space your home-video clips might take up, it’s unfortunate that Apple didn’t boost the Nano’s storage capacity this generation.
